USGS MIPS Tfcomp Documentation

This program will compress a transformation file. It does not reduce the physical size of the file, but instead it reduces the size of the output image  file that will be produced when the compressed tfile is used as input to the program GEOM.

Files

This program requires as input a transformation file and will produce a transformation file. The following information is transferred from the input file to the output file:

Projection labels
History  file
The resolution in the projection labels will be updated according to the compression factor selected by the user.

Parameters

COMPRESS

This parameter is used to select the compression factor to apply to the transformation file. For example, a value of 2 will reduce the size of the output GEOM image by a factor of 2 in both the line and sample directions. There is no default value.

Uses

This program is useful for testing transformation files created by TFGEN or TFWGEN that will produce extremely large output images when input to GEOM. At times the control points entered to the TF programs may have linear dependencies which will cause GEOM to produce severely warped images. By compressing the transformation file, a small test version of the output can be produced to make sure the transformation has produced the desired results.
