USGS MIPS Mssgeom Documentation

This program applies systematic geometric corrections to raw Landsat Multi Spectral Scanner (MSS) images . Systematic corrections are made for the earth's rotation, variable velocity of the scanning mirror, and the aspect ratio of the pixels  (i.e., differing height and width).

Files

This program requires as input a raw Landsat MSS unsigned 8-bit  image file and will generate a geometrically corrected image. The following information is transferred from the input files to the output files:

Image labels
History  file

Parameters

LATITUDE

This parameter is used to define the latitude of the first line in the Landsat MSS image. The latitude is used to make corrections due to the earth's rotation.

LRES and SRES

These parameters are used to define the line and sample pixel resolution in meters for the output image. The default for both is 50 meters.

Examples

Raw Landsat MSS Band 6 before systematic geometric corrections.
