USGS MIPS Applystr Documentation

This program applies a stretch  to an image file on disk using a stretch file  generated using one of several programs. Generally the stretch parameters are generated and stored on a disk file, called a stretch file, using one of the following programs:

Autostr
Colorcode
Picstr
Histeq
Gauss
Import
These program all have an option to generate or save the parameters of a given stretch. For example, if Colorcode is applied to an image and the stretch pairs  are saved using the save option in Vista, this program can be used to then actually apply the stretch parameters to the disk image file to produce the color coded image seen on the screen for output to film and/or a color printer.

Files

This program requires as input one unsigned 8-bit , or one signed 16-bit , or one 32-bit  floating point image file. The input image must also have a stretch file associated with it. The program will generate one or three output image files. If one output file is entered then stretches from the programs GAUSS, HISTEQ, PICSTR, and AUTOSTR are assumed, so only one output file is needed. If three output files are entered then COLORCODE stretch parameters are assumed and three output images are generated(blue, green and red files). The following information is transferred from the input file to the output file(if appropriate):

Image labels
Mosaic label
Projection labels
Sonar labels
Navigation  file
History  file

Parameters

STR1, STR2, .....

These parameters are equal to the stretch values found in the stretch file and are used to apply the desired stretch to the input image. STR1 would be the first stretch found in the stretch file, STR2 the second, and so on.

Examples

[Example Image]

Image before having red, green and blue stretches applied by APPLYSTR.
