USGS MIPS Addsnr Documentation

This program is used to add navigation  and sonar system information to the sonar labels  within the image . The sonar labels are generated using the user specified that information includes:

Cruise Identification
Device Name
Pulse Rate
Speed of Sound in Water
The navigation information is added to the navigation header file using a user specified starting date/time and pulse rate of the sonar device. Only the date/time stamps are originally recorded in the navigation header file; with default values for the other parameters being as follows:

Roll 0
Pitch 0
Heading 0
Latitude 0
Longitude 0
Altitude 0
These values can be modified using the program NAVMERGE if navigation data are available. The altitude values can be set using the program AUTOALT and/or the altitude editor in VISTA.

Files

This program requires as input one image file. The program generates a navigation header file with the same number of records as there are number of lines in the image (i.e., one navigation header recorded for each image line). Also, sonar labels are added to the image label file .

Parameters

DEVICE, CRUISE and SPEED

These parameters are used to specify the name of the sonar fish (e.g. Gloria, EG&G, etc), the cruise identification, and the speed of sound in water for the given data set. This information is placed in the sonar labels and used by several of the processing programs.

RATE

This parameter is used to specify the pulse rate(in seconds) of the sonar system. Each navigation record time stamp will be separated by this time increment.

DATE and TIME

These parameters define the starting date and time for the navigation file for the corresponding image. The date format should be entered as "YYYYMMDD" and the time format should be entered as "HHMMSS.SSS"

Uses

This program is used to add sonar labels and navigation information to an image. For example, some of the first GLORIA data collected was written to film and not stored digitally. In order to process these data the film was scanned to create a digital image; this program was then used to add sonar and navigation information to allow the data to be processed.
