The distribution that was downloaded during step 2 (Download USGS MIPS distribution) must be in the directory created during step 1 (Find a Home for USGS MIPS). If this is not the case then you should move it there.
Use these instructions if you downloaded a Unix distribution. Note, if your WWW browser automatically uncompresses files, skip directly to the tar command:
uncompress file.tar.ZUse these instructions if you downloaded an OpenVMS distribution:
tar xf file.tar
backup file.bck/save [*...]
