Tips for Searching the TerraWeb Website
Wildcard: Right-hand truncation (stemming) queries
The query 'geo*' will find documents containing the words 'geology' as well as 'geography' and 'geometry'. If you are not sure of the spelling or form of the word used in the documents, use this. The asterisk (*) acts as a wildcard, meaning "match any character or group of character in this position in the word."
'And' queries -- Narrow Your Search
The query 'red and blue' will find only documents containing both the words 'red' and 'blue'.
'Or' queries -- Expand Your Search
The query 'red or blue' will find documents containing either or both of the words 'red' and 'blue'.
Nested queries -- Complicated Searches
The query '(red and green) or blue' will find documents containing both the words 'red', and 'green', and the documents containing blue.
'Not' -- Illegal Operator
Currently, the search engine does not support the not operator.
