Using Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) Images

ABOUT THIS IMAGE DATA ARCHIVE

This directory contains archives of the resulting georeferenced AVHRR band 1 and 2 mosaics, and GTOPO30 digital elevation model, in USGS MIPS image format. It was necessary to use a simple scaling and translation of the global GTOPO30 data to georeference the AVHRR data. Archive ant-dem16b-regsub.tar.gz contains this slightly modified version of the DEM data in raw image (USGS MIPS) format.

The following projection parameters were used:

Projection: Polar Stereographic
Ellipsoid: WGS84
Pixel Resolution: 1.01 KM
DEM Elevation Values: meters above mean sea level
Center Longitude: 0
Center Latitude: 71 South
Upper Left X,Y: -2877974.62258588, 2413783.16981739
Lower Right X,Y: 2919369.49967643, -2535021.30046716
Number of Lines: 4900
Number of Samples: 5740

X & Y coordinates in meters (measured from pole)
note: latitude of true scale = center latitude
